The production staff for the “Madame Web” Spider-Man spinoff film slated to release next summer has sent out a casting call for paid extra roles at the movie’s Boston filming site, according to a New England casting agency.
Kendall Cooper Casting is now accepting submissions for extras to work on Sony’s upcoming “Madame Web” Spider-Man spinoff feature film — “Claire” is the movie’s working title that’s displayed on the casting website. The movie started filming in Boston on July 11 and will continue filming in the city up until September.
The casting company said they’re looking for Boston-area residents of all ethnicities, ages, genders, and sizes to portray various extra roles throughout the film. Production is also seeking cars from the year 2003 or earlier for use in the film. Additionally, there are roles for experienced law enforcement officers, EMTs, firefighters and precision drivers.
“Typically each extra role will work 1 or 2 days with a pre-fitting required before filming and covid testing in advance of any in-person work,” the production company said in a statement. “Filming will generally be a 12+ hour commitment for each day of work. All extra work, testing and fittings are paid. Seeking SAG and Non-Union talent. Local hire only, no travel or housing provided.”
Applications can be filled out on the casting company’s website, applicants must include two current photos of themselves that clearly show their current hair length, style and facial hair, an up-to-date full body photo is also required. All extras are expected to be fully vaccinated and will be required to show proof of vaccination and take a COVID test once on set.
Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff film features “Fifty Shades of Grey” star, Dakota Johnson, as “Madame Web,” the movie’s lead. Sydney Sweeney of “Euphoria” fame and Emma Roberts who starred in 2020′s “The Hunt” and Isabela Merced, star of the live-action “Dora” movie, will assume supporting character roles in the film.
While an official synopsis of the movie has not been released, the “Madame Web” comic book adaptation is based on Madame Web, a mutant within the Spider-man universe. In the comics, Madame Web is depicted as a woman with myasthenia gravis — a chronic disorder that weakens skeletal muscles — requiring her to stay connected to a life-support machine that looks like a spider web. Due to her medical condition and old age, Madame Web doesn’t fight villains in the comics. It’s uncertain whether the film will stay true to the comic’s portrayal of Madame Web.
“Madame Web” is expected to be released on July 7, 2023, according to IMDB.
