What's new? How much do they cost? And how do they perform? Hannah Holden brings you the low down on Ping's new putters

Ping are back with TEN brand new putters. The whole point of this extensive range is to provide a model for every golfer. If you are a traditionalist and like the look of a blade, or if you are someone who prefers a mallet, there are numerous different options available to you.

“What’s most exciting about our new PING putter models is how different they are from each other,” said John K. Solheim, PING CEO and President.

“Rather than applying one common technology to every model, our engineers took a more singular approach, applying proven innovations to different head styles to improve the performance of our most popular designs while introducing some brand-new models.

“For example, several of the new models offer milled faces for a firmer feel and others provide a softer feeling insert. In the blade models, which includes the Tony Finau-inspired Anser 2D design, we put a priority on delivering high-MOI, clean-looking designs by placing tungsten weights in the heel and toe.

“The use of aluminum and stainless steel in the larger mallet designs has resulted in some of our most forgiving models to date, led by the Tomcat 14. Each model also provides confidence- inspiring alignment cues, from single lines to multi-line alignment aids.

“It’s a very diverse offering but the one thing they all have in common is they offer precision performance on putts of every length.”

Across the range, we see a wide variety of different technologies. The most contrasting are two different face milling techniques. Shallow milling is used in seven models, delivering a slightly firmer feel. If you want a putter that feels softer off the face, then the Pebax insert in the other three models is the way to go.

Good alignment is a huge part of putting well, but all golfers respond to different alignment cues. Ping have used a mixture of single alignment cues, multiple lines and colour blocking to match a golfer’s eye and give them confidence over the golf ball.

Perhaps the most famous putter shape in history and also the one with the most wins on tour. A Ping range of putters wouldn’t be complete without an Anser model.

There are tungsten toe and heel weights to give this traditional model more stability and forgiveness. The design features colour blocking to draw your eye to the platinum topline for optimal alignment.

Tony Finau’s model of choice. This features the Pebax face insert for a softer feel. Again tungsten in the toe and heel provides more stability and one single white alignment line contrasts with the rest of the club head.

The short neck of the Kushin 4 makes it perfect for players with a big arc in their putting stroke. More weight in the heel and toe adds forgiveness for improved accuracy.

Tungsten toe and heel weights help ensure stability. The platinum topline and hosel make a statement and create a strong alignment cue parallel to the target line.

It was named in honour of Doug Sanders, who served as Karsten’s chief engineer for many years. The more squared-off look is designed to be aesthetically pleasing for mid-mallet players.

It has a shallow milled face to help deliver a firmer feel.

The DS72 model is also available in a centre-shafted head option. This gives more visual symmetry at address and is ideal for players who have a very straight back and through stroke.

The ball-pickup cutout feature is really eye-catching and practical but it also has a performance function. It redistributes weight to the perimeter which drives up MOI and forgiveness.

This features the Pebax face insert for a softer feel at impact.

It is no surprise to see this in the line-up, given how popular the PLD offering of the model was. The twin forks on the club head drive up stability and overall performance.

The shallow milled face delivers a firm feel. I like the use of colour blocking as the platinum topline contrasts really well with the rest of the club to make alignment easier.

The club head is a mixture of a lighter aluminium body and a 304 stainless steel sole plate. This combination moves the centre of gravity low and back and drives up forgiveness.

This features the Pebax insert for a softer feel. I love the three full-length lines as they frame the ball and centre the golf ball.

The biggest model in this Ping putter line-up. It has a multi-material construction, so weight location can be optimised to create more MOI. The runway-style dots on the top are really eye-catching and a great alignment aid to frame the golf ball.

This has a smooth milled face which gives the firmest feel off the club face in the new Ping putter range.

The DS72 shaping built with a longer shaft and grip and with more loft to perform for the armlock style of player.
